We find that as Caitlin has started spending more time with Sarah and Fraser’s family, Jenny has also begun sleeping with Maggie. The tension between Richard and his wife, Jenny are evident as their fights in their household escalate. Richard starts to feel the slipping of control over his job, his family, his wife. This interaction lays down the groundwork of the foreshadowing we will see later in the show when Richard and Sarah’s power struggle becomes more evident. As she leaves to enter Sarah’s car, Richard watches the two interact, mild disgust and annoyance evident on his face.

In the opening scene we see Caitlin and Sarah leave early in the morning to practice range shooting on the base. After a confrontation with Doc Barrow, the girls manage to gain the upper hand against their father, biting into him until he dies. Rose, however, spots a jar of arsenic in the kitchen and discovers his plan.

Noticing that the flood has finally loosened the mass gravesite of victims and realizing that Doc Barrow is onto him, a hopeless and increasingly unhinged Frank decides to poison himself and his children. The task is taken on by both Iris and Rose, and though the girls are shaken to learn that their father's most recent captive is a local woman they know, they reluctantly complete the murder. Once Alyce's mother passed away and her father's mind began to fail him, it became her duty to feed the family, just as it is now Iris's. As Iris and Rose read more of Alyce's book, strong parallels between her story and their own begin to emerge.
